France Beyond Paris reaches outside the traditional tourist destinations to focus on the uncrowded charms of Normandy and Brittany. Dramatic coastlines, quiet villages and architectural charms form the highlights of this week-long journey. There will be many fresh air experiences: optional e-biking, walking in small villages, the Normandy beaches, and private visits to several memorable sights. We offer an insider view of the island of Capri and the Amalfi Coast like no other. In 2023, we again offer this luxurious holiday experience. Guests on Adagio’s Amalfi journey will sample pizza at its source as well as the local wines that accompany so perfectly the local fare. From our fabulous base in Sorrento, guests will explore the unforgettable mountainside towns of the Amalfi Coast and the excavations of Pompeii. We’ll view the famous coastline not only from the comfort of our little bus, but also from our privately-chartered boat. We start on Italy’s tiny Lake Orta, a shiny jewel amidst the stunning Alps. Days on the lakes, exploring their islands and chairlifting to the tops of mountains; evenings tasting secrets from our Villa’s double Michelin-starred chef, followed by spirited discussions of our day’s discoveries. Clearly, everything the Italophile craves is here in abundance: ancient towns with the tangible past right in your face; ornate churches dreamt up by Europe’s finest architects; the footprints of an endless procession of conquerors and cultures, stamped in stone, gold and marble; seas of olives; olive-green seas; and fish and veggies the envy of most other regions of Italy. Tired of hearing about Tuscany? Come take in the baroque splendor of Lecce, ‘Florence of the South’, and the many lesser (but no less remarkable) Pugliese towns. But it’s perhaps outside of its cities that Puglia shines brightest. For it’s in the countryside – the source of its food, wealth and culture — where you’ll find the region’s soul.

The Aeolian Islands are a volcanic archipelago located off the coast of northeastern Sicily. Said to be named after Aeolus, the mythical ruler of the winds, the dreamy Aeolian islands are one of southern Italy’s greatest natural and cultural treasures. The group includes seven islands – each one with its own identity. We’ll travel around a few of the most beautiful by catamaran, and spend two nights on Salina. The verdant valleys and charming towns of Salina have earned it the reputation of being the prettiest of the Aeolians. We’ll enjoy some of its local products, like freshly grown capers and Malvasia dessert wine, complete with a delicious saline note.

Our holiday begins with several delightful and relaxing days just over Italy’s eastern border in Slovenia, one of the newer members of the European Union. Slovenia offers gently rolling hills and lush valleys, tucked between Austria to the north, Croatia to the south and Italy to the west.

Our time in Piemonte (from “piede” (foot) + “monte” (mountain)) in northwest Italy will reveal why the locals have so jealously guarded the secrets of this region.

A wholesome approach to well-being, from the soothing palette of the hotel’s color scheme, to its sensible approach to exercise (think: a 45-minute walk through the gardens every morning) to its light yet flavorful food (after all we are in Italy!).

The allure of Sicily lies in its contrasts. Palermo, cradle of the Mediterranean and “a city of extremes, a mixture of panache and poverty.” Along our west to east route we visit Agrigento’s magical Greek temples; top wineries; meals that are tantalizing cultural mosaics. Majestic Mt. Etna and its surrounding cities, once the center of Magna Graecia, mark the end of our 10-day adventure.

The Other Tuscany: From the Silver Coast to Siena offers an active week of walking and hiking through the Maremma region of Tuscany. Seven days are barely enough to learn about the past, appreciate the present and begin to unravel the mystery of this magnificent area.

In October 2018 we’re escorting a select group of gourmet explorers on a tour of Italy’s sophisticated and picturesque Piedmont region. Famed Barolo and Barbaresco wines, the chocolate and hazelnut concoction gianduja and the star of the culinary world: the rare white truffle, vermouth, cinematography:  all were born in the Piedmont.
